The Solution:Īfter the recreation of the problem on a clean Windows 10 VM, I removed the latest 2021-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for 圆4-based Systems (KB5006670), and the problem disappeared. After the update, the problem reappeared, meaning it most definitely has something to do with the latest update. However, I have not yet updated Windows 10 to the latest version. After installation, the first thing I did was to install the printer. I did a fresh install of Windows 10 on a newly created virtual machine.
Reinstall and re-share the printer on the host machine. If this is a network printer, make sure that the printer is turned on, and that the printer address is correct. You may also get the following error when adding a new network printer via Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Devices and Printers->Add a printer. Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network. Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709). When trying to install a printer that is shared on another computer within the same local network, you get the 0x00000709 error message saying: In the end, it turned out to be a faulty KB5006670 Windows update that was causing the problem. One of the shared printers stopped working out of the blue on his Windows 10 machine, and my first attempt to fix it was to delete the printer and install it once again. 
Today one of my coworkers asked me to fix an issue regarding a shared printer in a local network.
